Our developers have added an incredible new feature to your Planned Giving Design Center website: geolocation. Geolocation is the most significant technical advance in the PGDC since we launched the site in 1998. It adds significant financial value to your PGDC. Geolocation is being added to all of our client's sites at no additional charge.

Geolocation is a geeky word, I know. So, let’s skip the technical jargon and talk about what it means to you in the real-world and how it impacts your PGDC website and organization.

Every day, people go to the search engines to find answers to their questions about planned giving and philanthropy. Ideally, you’d like them to find your organization’s website when doing such research.

But getting your website to appear in the search engines for a popular planned giving phrase like “charitable remainder trust” or “charitable lead trust” isn’t easy. You can place a pay-per-click ad with Google, or hire a search engine optimization firm to spend months (or even years!) slowly nudging your site towards the front page of Google and the rest of the search engines.

Neither option is cheap, costing thousands of dollars per month at a minimum!

Here is where geolocation comes into play. Our site, Planned Giving Design Center at www.pgdc.com is ranked in the top three results on the first page of Google for both of the phrases above, and many more just like them!

If an advisor or donor searches for the phrase “charitable remainder trust”, there’s a good chance they’ll click the link to read the content on the PGDC. When our system detects that they’re located in your service area, the user is seamlessly redirected to your branded version of the PGDC, not our national site! They never even see the national site, they see your PGDC. In fact, even if they type www.pgdc.com into their browser, your PGDC will be shown instead of the national site.

We are basically transferring the PGDC’s very high search engine ranking that we have built over the last 16 years to your PGDC. No costly pay-per-click, or SEO, and at no additional cost to you.

If it seems like magic, it is. Our technical guys tell me it works by analyzing the IP address of the user and matching it to a database of known locations. And they’ve also thrown in the same technology that is used when you’re searching for directions on Google Maps on your laptop, iPad, tablet or smartphone. That’s why we call it geolocation.

So here is what we need from you:

  1. Click on the link at the end of this paragraph. If you go to your PGDC website then you don’t need to do anything. Geolocation is already running on your site. Congratulations! http://www.pgdc.com.

  2. If you go to our national site instead, then geolocation is not currently running on your site and here is what you need to do.

  1. Geolocation is made possible when we place the zip codes for your region in the backend of your PGDC.

  2. We need you to approve a “Welcome to our PGDC” email, samples are provided here. Email your copy to support@pgdc.com.

  3. Once we receive your copy, we will insert your region’s zip codes and run our Marketing Co-op switcher and transfer all of our existing PGDC members in your service area from our national site to your PGDC, sending them the customized marketing email from you.

  4. At that moment, geolocation will automatically be activated. We will notify you immediately through email.

If you provided your custom welcome email when we implemented the zip-code marketing system last year, thank you - you’re all set! If not, please provide by Sept 15th or we will automatically use Sample 3 located on this page - http://www.pgdc.com/faq-group-managers/marketing-co-op-zip-code-system.

Like I said, I know this may seem like a lot of technical geeky stuff, and it is. So I’d like to make the benefits of geolocation as simple as possible for all of us who are not techies. Geolocation simply means that your PGDC for those living in your area has become the only PGDC they will ever see. And it’s not just the search engines. It’s every link on any of the 7,500+ websites that link to the PGDC. It’s any link to any article in a PDF that is downloaded from the Internet. Geolocation works everywhere on the Internet!

Now you know why this is the greatest technical advance in your PGDC website since we launched the company. Geolocation will bring advisors and donors to their local organization, your organization, where they can get the assistance they need to design and make a charitable gift.

Respectfully,

P.S. There can only be one PGDC in each region of the country because of the way geolocation has been implemented. Congratulations and thank you for believing in our mission.
